The aim of this paper is to compare the optimization capability of two algorithm. The first one is a traditional algorithm, the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and the other one is a recently developed algorithm, Social Network Optimization. To make a comparison between the two algorithms, the optimization of a planar reflectarray is here used as a complex, non-linear electromagnetic benchmark problem.
