This paper proposes an analysis of the evolution of outbound supply chain in Chinese market, with a specific focus on fashion industry. Grounding on the critical analysis of extant scientific literature and on empirical evidence from 12 retrospective case studies, the paper highlights: (1) four main archetypes of evolutionary pattern of the structure of the outbound supply chain in China; (2) the main motivations pushing companies in the adoption of the specific evolutionary pattern; (3) context variables affecting the adoption of the evolutionary pattern.
