The aim of this work is to improve the mathematical models currently available for the simulation of ice production in turbulent seawater. The multiphase equations presented here consider the ice-sea water mixture as a dense compressible fluid. A low-Mach number asymptotic analysis has been performed to investigate the behaviour of the governing equations in the incompressible limit. The incompressibility condition has then been imposed on the zero-Mach-number equations by projecting the continuous phase equations onto the space of divergence-free vector fields. Moreover, the behaviour of seawater has been modeled by a reduced form of an equation of state that relates density, salinity, temperature and pressure, allowing us to go beyond the Boussinesq approximation. The derived system of multiphase equations is therefore suitable for the numerical simulation of ice production when the ice concentration exceeds 10-3 .
