Rural landscape is a high expression of people identity. This awareness is now more evident than before. On the other hand rural landscapes are threatened by huge changes due to pressures of development and increased urban population. In this context the International Scientific Committee on Cultural Landscapes ICOMOS-IFLA (ISCCL) has launched in 2012 the World Rural Landscape Initiative that aims to promote worldwide cooperation in the protection, understanding and management of rural landscapes through the creation of a place for international collaboration. The paper presents the structure of the project, the suggested method, the first results and the work in progress.

Abstract
