The paper evaluates the parasitic currents that can occur in Yokeless and Segmented Armature Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Machines, where the particular structure required to fix the separate teeth can originate stray paths. In the paper, these paths are defined and modeled, and the consequent currents are estimated. Some preliminary measurements validate the model.

Abstract

The paper evaluates the parasitic currents that can occur in Yokeless and Segmented Armature Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Machines, where the particular structure required to fix the separate teeth can originate stray paths. In the paper, these paths are defined and modeled, and the consequent currents are estimated. Some preliminary measurements validate the model.
