The research presented takes place into the field of Communication Design and intends to be an investigation on the research and project area related to ‘urban environment communication’. If we analyze the state of the art regarding urban communication, we note that not only its communication modalities are changing, but also its contents. Travelers and citizens are looking for tools able to represent places and their landmarks through different approaches and point of views. These devices and tools, in addition to inform and guide the users during the exploration of a place, also mediate the contact with it, offering new ways to interact and access to contents. In order to answer these questions we must take advantage of the numerous contributions from several research and project fields. Although the projects and research contributions are so numerous, the lens of investigation is Communication Design, as planning of methods and tools make accessible contents related to the places.
