Nel libro l’esperienza progettuale lungo la via Francigena, condotta all’interno di un Workshop Internazionale con l’École National Supérieure d'Architecture of Marseille, viene riletta come ‘esperienza di viaggio’ intrapresa da docenti e studenti sulla scorta di quella vissuta dagli antichi pellegrini. Lungo il viaggio il sentiero si fa prima traccia, poi tracciato, quindi percorso da attraversare in silenzio, infine vera e propria ‘via’ collettiva, luogo da attraversare ma insieme pista da seguire, ogni volta segnata da una nuova meta da raggiungere. Di qui l’associazione del termine percorso al concetto di ‘soglia’, luogo interposto tra mondi diversi ma nello stesso tempo regione di ‘frontiera’, zona intermedia, spazio dell’incertezza ma insieme varco aperto al destino del viandante che lo attraversa. In questo senso il legame etimologico con il termine solea (da cui suolo), suola del viandante che attraversa i terreni della storia memorizzandone ogni volta l’impronta lasciata sul terreno. A partire dagli archetipi dunque (percorso, soglia, via), il saggio apre a strategie progettuali inedite: sezioni, tagli, attraversamenti, ogni volta legate ad azioni precise sul territorio, in grado di innescare importanti trasformazioni insediative. Di qui l’originalità dei progetti, che identificano proprio in queste trasformazioni le azioni di riuso, riciclo e riduzione, importanti ed attuali forme costruttive da adottare nella rigenerazione dei luoghi della città. Inside the book, the design experience along the Via Francigena , conducted as part of an international workshop with the Ecole National Supérieure d'Architecture of Marseille , is reinterpreted as ' travel experience ' undertaken by faculty and students on the basis of that experienced by ancient pilgrims . Along the journey, the path becomes firstly a track , then a route to cross in silence, finally a real collective ' street ' place to cross , each time marked by a new goal to reach. Hence the association of the term path to the concept of ' threshold ' , place interposed between different worlds but at the same time the region of ' frontier ' , the intermediate zone , the uncertainty space open to the fate of the traveler passing through it. In this sense, the etymological connection with the word solea (from which the soil) , the sole of the wanderer that crosses the land of history memorizing every time the imprint left on the ground. Beginning from the archetypes (path , threshold, etc.) , the essay previously opens to design unreleased strategies: sections , cuts, penetrations , each time tied to specific actions in the area, which could trigger major transformations settlement . Hence the originality of the projects , which identify changes in these measures of reuse , recycling and reduction , important forms of the construction to be adopted in the regeneration of the places in the contemporary city.
