In this paper, a simplified, control-oriented mathematical model of an offshore variable speed wind turbine with spar buoy platform is developed and used for the synthesis of an H∞ controller working at above-rated power operating conditions. The model parameters are identified and a model validation phase is carried out using an accurate reference model. The controller performances are tested both on the small-scale simulation model and on a reference simulator.

Abstract

In this paper, a simplified, control-oriented mathematical model of an offshore variable speed wind turbine with spar buoy platform is developed and used for the synthesis of an H∞ controller working at above-rated power operating conditions. The model parameters are identified and a model validation phase is carried out using an accurate reference model. The controller performances are tested both on the small-scale simulation model and on a reference simulator.
