The construction of architecture is today increasingly often preceded by the construction of its physical model to different scales: this depends on the complexity of geometric shapes characterising contemporary architecture and the evolution of construction techniques. For geometries of contemporary architecture, highly variable in their three-dimensional development, representation on the flat screen of the computer is often insufficient, while recourse to the physical model allows the overall project to be appreciated at a glance and its shapes to be better examined. Creation of the model involves major transformations of the architectural design with the application of new and very particular geometric constructions of the model, based on a process of extreme simplification of shapes. The intention is to document the teaching experience developed during “3D Modelling” lessons of Politecnico in Milan.
