Il saggio racconta del ritrovamento nella Cattedrale San Vigilio di Trento di innumerevoli lacerti di pitture parietali rinvenuti poco sotto la calandra disconnessa della monofora nord-occidentale della controfacciata, in corrispondenza della torre campanaria del duomo. I frammenti provenienti da demolizioni eseguite in epoca imprecisata e inglobati nella malta utilizzata per realizzare il piano a strombo dell’imposta della monofora stessa, sono stati dunque meticolosamente raccolti e trasportati presso la sede dell’Istituto per la Storia dell’Arte Lombarda per catalogazione ed approfondimenti conoscitivi. Il testo illustra i risultati ottenuti dalle analisi scientifi che, i metodi di studio e catalogazione dei fragmenta picta, i parallelismi possibili con analoghi ritrovamenti e spiega le nuove implicazioni che tale rinvenimento potrebbe avere nell’ambito dei futuri restauri della Cattedrale . Fragments and new fragmenta picta found in San Vigilio cathedral in Trento The article tells about the retrieval of many fragments of wall paintings in S. Vigilio cathedral in Trento. Th ese fragments have been found just below the basement splay of the north-western single lancet window of the counter façade next to the dome’s bell-tower. They were generated after some demolitions occurred in an undefi ned period and they were incorporated in the mortar used for the embrasure of the single lancet window’s shutter. The fragments have been meticulously collected and carried to the base of the “Istituto per la Storia dell’Arte Lombarda” where they have been cataloged and studied. Th e text shows the results of the scientifi c analysis, the methods of studying and cataloging the fragmenta picta, and it explains the parallelisms with similar fi ndings and the new implications that this retrieval could have for the future restauration of the cathedral.
