The paper illustrates an experience concerning teaching urban design and planning at Politecnico of Milano. The teaching approach invites, on one hand, to go over linear and consequential survey, urban analysis and project. On the other hand, it simulates a highly complex professional design work and research situation, guided by a sequence of real experiences towards a territorial re-composition. The contribution stresses the "research by design" as a way of teaching. It presents the international context of the planning School of Milan, describes the didactic principles and practices that brings together project and research, and gives back the results from a critical perspective.

Abstract
The paper illustrates an experience concerning teaching urban design and planning at Politecnico of Milano. The teaching approach invites, on one hand, to go over linear and consequential survey, urban analysis and project. On the other hand, it simulates a highly complex professional design work and research situation, guided by a sequence of real experiences towards a territorial re-composition. The contribution stresses the "research by design" as a way of teaching. It presents the international context of the planning School of Milan, describes the didactic principles and practices that brings together project and research, and gives back the results from a critical perspective.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
