The main point argued and illustrated in this paper is the ease to import methods and ideas emerging in the connectionist community for control applications as soon as the fuzzy controller is supplied with a gradient-based automatic tuning of its parameters. Such a gradient method is applied for the simplest member of Sugeno's fuzzy systems. Then an example of direct adaptive fuzzy controller derived from its neural equivalent and comparing favorably with it is exposed and discussed.
