The mass spectrometric characterization of stereoisomeric 1,3,4-trideoxy-3-fluoronojirimycins and 1,3,4-trideoxy-3-fluoromannojirimycins has been achieved by means of metastable ion studies. In particular, mass-analyzed ion kinetic energy spectroscopy performed on the electron-ionization-generated molecular species of the title compounds has led to an easy and unequivocal differentiation of the four stereoisomers under study, by their unusual diagnostic fragmentation mechanisms.

Abstract

The mass spectrometric characterization of stereoisomeric 1,3,4-trideoxy-3-fluoronojirimycins and 1,3,4-trideoxy-3-fluoromannojirimycins has been achieved by means of metastable ion studies.
