Abstract

We want to document the digital modeling, and subsequent transformation into a physical model of a portion of the historically significant area of Lecco. This is a project for the reuse and transformation into a museum center of a historic iron mine, long unused. The project named "Promotion of integrated mining areas in town Resinelli Plans" developed by the Politecnico di Milano in collaboration with the East Mountain Community of the lake and by the Lombardy Region aims to recover a main historical and cultural importance in the territorial reality Lecco such as those represented by the mining history that has characterized past centuries Resinelli of the plans and the development of foundry-rich water along the course of the stream Gerenzone which crosses the entire city of Lecco.. To achieve this, the actors of the project have focused their efforts on the recovery of the underground and allocated for tourism, and popular science with the creation of a museum interactive workshop hosted in the halls of the now disused mine Anna, the museum is divided into several thematic workshops, dedicated to minerals, rocks, monitoring of unstable walls, the most advanced technological tools, without forgetting the human aspect of life in the mine and the fatigue of workers .. . human life in the mine and the fatigue of workers. To develop the project was essential the use of 3D modeling of sites, the most important moments. Were problematic because some peculiar aspects of the theme to be developed and related in particular to very hilly land, which develops suddenly from the lake of Lecco in Lombardy Alps, and totally underground location of the premises on which to intervene. This condition made it difficult to start a viable direct relief measures, and their refund in two dimensions, leading to the development of laser scanner survey of existing and acquisition of a point cloud. This was the basis of work for the setting of the follow project activities. Here in particular you want to document the treatment of important instrumental develop mines within the "Laboratory Prototype and 3D Modeling" to help achieve this posting exploitation of mining areas, not just the development phase of the project, but also in constant pursuit of scientific documentation and dissemination. The 3D digital model of land and mines has been prepared to provide, first, the morphological data and sizes needed for testing and structural safety. Based on these assumptions have been developed and interior arrangement of rooms, museums, media and graphics processing paths that will be used later for guided tours. The digital modeling was subsequently returned in different ways to produce media in popularizing documentary. Among these solutions for the visit of interactive digital model of the mines from a distance. Particular effort was devoted to the creation of physical models of land and mining environments, produced entirely within the laboratory prototypes, which remain in the Museum's permanent endowment.
