The accuracy of functional methods for the hip joint center (HJC) localization is affected by the motion of the pelvis during the passive manoeuvres performed. Unscented Kalman Filters (UKF) proved to reduce the error in HJC localization with tests on a mechanical phantom. In this work we evaluate an UKF algorithm in an in-vitro setup using cadaveric specimens and compare its accuracy with respect to standard functional methods using an anatomical gold standard HJC. The results obtained endorsed the potentialities of UKF algorithm showed in the previous study, proving a comparable accuracy of the methodologies when the pelvis translation is in the range of (1.7-8)mm. Thus, the clinical requirements of computed assisted orthopeadic surgery (CAOS) procedures are met.
