In this chapter the main issues related to surface modifications of titanium and titanium alloys in biomedical applications are discussed. Firstly the basic chemico-physical principles of electrochemical processes are considered, followed by a critical review of important results reported in this field. Finally, the latest advances in complex organic/ inorganic surface preparation, based on electrochemical surface immobilisation of biomolecules, are presented.

Abstract
