Abstract

The expanding gel resulting from the Alkali-Aggregate- Reaction (AAR) is producing extensive damages in many concrete dams, built decades ago, throughout the world. Several models for the simulation of the degradation process have been proposed in the literature. The present contribution discusses the anisotropic extension of a recent two-phase isotropic damage model, proposed for the finite element simulation of the progressive degradation induced in concrete dams by the AAR.
