Rho is a town near Milan, Italy. It is crossed by a main railway line of many tracks with a very frequent traffic of trains. Only a single narrow subway was usable as a pedestrian and vehicle connection between the two sectrs of teh town. In 1996 the Municipality made an international competition for a preliminary design of a new crossing facility. The Author presented a solution based on a fly-over bridge, with two access ramps with a mild slope (convenient for an urban road and a pedestrian path), and an arch bridge in the central span, over the railway. The choice of an arch structure and its skyline played an important part in the success of teh solution: in fact it was rather elevated (32 mt approximately) above the ground, and it could be seen from far away as a strong "sign of reconnection" between the two sectors of the town.
