An intriguing paradox is what arises with the evolution of a city’s image, from the utopias of the early Twenties to supermodernity of the contemporary metropolis. An interplay of dynamics which, instead of striving to plan and create infrastructures as part of the supporting structure of the city, weave the urban fabric with spontaneous and entropic interventions and events, neglecting the importance of a strategic plan which does not forsake the idea of operating with «infrastructures at the service of balance» (Pavia, 2015) where the natural component incorporates technology and the artificial component is in turn enhanced by nature. Man-made environments betray their own ineptitude in responding to the performance, technological and organisational levels dependent on an ever-changing functional and behavioural articulation of users and systems, which define contemporary urban dynamics. Recent urbanisation trends are rapidly becoming more and more common, to a point that it is predicted that by 2035 over seventy percent of the world’s population will be concentrated in formalised urban contexts.
