The management of supply chains is shifting from transactional to relational. A longer-term perspective, therefore, might be better suited to investigate a supply chain’s inter-organisational relationships. However, little is known on the appropriateness of applying the relational perspective in the context of supply chains with temporal nature. This paper reports the findings of an exploratory case study investigating the inter-organisational collaboration practices and strategies of industrial projects-based supply chains. The research findings indicate that although relational perspective is mainly implemented in alliances, however there are many of its determinants that can be used to bolster performance of temporary supply chains.

Abstract

The management of supply chains is shifting from transactional to relational. A longer-term perspective, therefore, might be better suited to investigate a supply chain’s inter-organisational relationships. However, little is known on the appropriateness of applying the relational perspective in the context of supply chains with temporal nature. This paper reports the findings of an exploratory case study investigating the inter-organisational collaboration practices and strategies of industrial projects-based supply chains. The research findings indicate that although relational perspective is mainly implemented in alliances, however there are many of its determinants that can be used to bolster performance of temporary supply chains.
